Job Purpose

The Gender Specialist in this role will play a crucial role in enhancing the project's focus on empowering women and youth in agriculture through technology-enabled vegetable production. Responsibilities include ensuring timely resource allocation, collaborating with government and non-governmental organizations to strengthen the gender focus, providing regular progress updates, translating gender policy into actionable measures, offering practical recommendations for gender-related goals, conducting targeted training, establishing and implementing gender acceptance policies, and contributing to the finalization of the project's internal gender policy. 

Job Description
  • Supports project plan to ensure that resources are adequate and in good time to achieve the objective of each project segment.
  • Responsible for working with government agencies and non-governmental organizations to strengthen the gender focus of the project in line with the project aim and strategy.
  • Produce regular situation updates, identifying challenges, opportunities, progress indicators, situation analysis, and potential risks
  • Help translate Gender policy into concrete measures.
  • Provide practical recommendations to support the appropriate organization or agency to implement its gender goals
  • Conduct targeted training for the project on gender analysis and gender-sensitive programming.
  • Establishing policies and procedures for gender acceptance to be used in line with the project goals.
  • Work with Gender Section to complete project Internal Gender Policy.
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned by the Management team whilst providing administrative support.
Competencies Required
  • At least 2-3 years direct experience in gender and women empowerment area
  • Knowledge & exposure to a range of gender mainstreaming & gender development issues
  • A minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Gender studies, sociology, social work, Development studies, law and other related social science fields.
  • Ability to evaluate and integrate gender equality strategic objectives into broader perspectives.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Yoruba is an added advantage.
