Job Purpose
The Agronomist will be responsible for handling agricultural assignments on the project and would work with the agronomy manager to develop and implement practices ensuring economical and environmentally viable operations for soil productivity; develop better cultivation, planting, and harvesting techniques; improve crop yield, quality of seed and nutritional values of crops.
Job Description
- Work with the agronomy manager to perform experiments to determine and then maximize plant nutrients and soil health.
- Develop better planting, cultivation, and harvesting techniques, to improve crop yield, and solve problems for project farms and companies assigned.
- Maintain detailed records regarding fields, customers, crops, and samples.
- Manage teams of farmers while conducting field visits.
- Work with the agronomy manager to provide guidance and support to Fields staff in areas such as fertilizer and herbicide recommendation.
- Testing samples for nutritional deficiencies, diseases, or other changes.
- Work with the agronomy manager to closely monitor pest populations and suggest courses of action should they become commercially threatening.
- Develop planting and irrigation schedules, and timelines to be used on the farm.
- Work with the agronomy manager to researching and promoting agricultural strategies to counter the effects of changes in soil, climate, weather, and pest damage.
- Visit fields to collect seed, plant, and soil samples.
- Assist with the plant sourcing, testing, and selection.
- Perform quality control for seed caliber, soil standards and crop samples
Competencies Required
- Degree in agronomy, agriculture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of agronomy work experience.
- In-depth knowledge of soil and crop principles.
- Outstanding research and analytical skills.
- Strong I.T knowledge and experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Outstanding team player and willing to learn and support the learning of others.
- High level of commitment, honesty, and enthusiasm.
- Excellent problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal, and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to pay attention to detail.
