Job Purpose

The Field Agent (FA) (Extension Worker) is responsible for the Regenerative Agriculture (RA) community assigned to him/her. S/he will be expected to train the Smallholder farmers on RA and ensure the setup of the community cooperatives.

An RA community consists of 200 smallholder farmer households or 100 hectares of land.

At the end of 24 months, the FA role will evolve into a Community Aggregator, their engagement with the project is expected to continue, and their future source of income will be linked to the business development support they provide to their RA community.

S/he will also be expected to provide support to the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Team (MEL).

Job Description
  •       Support the project to identify key community leaders to guide project community engagement
  •       Train farmers on RA Integrated Crops Trees and Livestock (ICTL)
  •       Support the community to identify a suitable location for the community demonstration farm
  •       Set up the RA ICTL community demonstration farm
  •       Ensure adoption of RA ICTL at the community and household level
  •       Ensure daily documentation of all farming activities and timely field reporting
  •       Provide business Development Support (BDS) services such as cooperative formation, registration and set up, linkages to market, credit, insurance, sales, marketing, product management, negotiation, networking, lobbying, household savings, etc. to the community and household
  •       Engage, Train, and Solve farmer challenges in farming, financial literacy, and inclusion activities
  •       Ensure proper clarity on their financial transactions
  •       Ensure due diligence on any procurement
  •       Keep track of every investment on the farm
  •       Work with the field team to ensure ease of movement and mobility
  •       Engage other third parties that will add value to the project
  •       Report and get appropriate approval on every transaction dealing with the farmers
  •       Provide farmers with relevant information from the project, hold frequent planning and coordination meetings with the community and farmers
  •       Any other duties assigned
Competencies Required
  •       Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Economics, Agriculture Extension, Agricultural Engineering, Crop Science, or another relevant field is required. An advanced degree is preferred
  •       At least 3 years of experience in data collection, monitoring, farm management, or related role
  •       Computer Literate, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  •       Good report-writing skills
  •       Must have a Working Smart Phone (Android version 4.1 and above, IOS not supported)
  •       Willingness to travel and work irregular and flexible hours
  •       High level of commitment and enthusiasm
  •       Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in English, Pidgin English, and Hausa language
  •       Ability to work effectively under pressure and to manage competing priorities
  •       Outstanding team player and willing to learn and support the learning of others
  •       Present professional behavior and outlook always
